Always have an emergency kit prepared in the event of a power outage and make sure everyone in the family knows where it is located. Your kit should include the following items:
 
  • Water (enough to sustain the members of your family for several days)
  • Dried and canned food
  • A manual can opener
  • Flashlights
  • Wind up or battery-operated radio
  • Batteries
  • A supply of cash
  • Prescription medicines and first aid supplies
  • Blankets
  • A charged cellphone
