Milton Hydro Educates Local Students on Electrical Safety and Conservation

The safety and well-being of our community, especially its youngest members, is a key focus of our educational programming. We have partnered with Electricity Safety and Conservation to provide age-appropriate electrical safety presentations at local public and Catholic schools in Milton. These programs educate students about the importance of electricity safety, both at home and outdoors, to ensure that Milton’s youth have the information they need to make safe choices.

Engaging and Age-Appropriate Programs

The education sessions are split into two distinct segments, one for younger children (JK to grade 3) and the other aimed at older students (grades 4 to 8) and cover a variety of topics including:

  • Home Safety: Understanding the risks of electrical hazards in the household.

  • Outdoor Safety: Recognizing dangers around utility poles, towers, and substations.

  • Energy Conservation: Learning simple ways to reduce energy consumption and understand the importance of sustainability.

Through practical and fun experiments, key safety messages are reinforced. Two of the most popular demonstrations are the:

  • High Line Hazard: An electrified display of a miniature town showcasing 14 potential electrical accidents.

  • Electrified Dill Pickle: Demonstrates the dangers of electricity by lighting up a darkened room and showing how an electrical shock can affect the human body.

These electrifying presentations help the students to understand complex concepts in a fun and engaging way and encourage them to share their knowledge with their families and friends.
