June 1st

New Time of Use Rates extended until October 31st, 2020.

UPDATE:

As Ontarians continue to work and learn from home, the government is extending the suspension of time-of-use price to provide consumers with greater stability and predictability with their electricity bills.
To extend this support responsibly, the government is introducing a fixed electricity price, known as the COVID-19 Recovery Rate, of 12.8 cents per kWh. For electricity consumed starting at 12:00 a.m. on Monday June 1, 2020, households, farms and small businesses paying TOU electricity rates will be charged the New COVID-19 Recovery Rate of 12.8 ¢ per kWh, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  This fixed electricity price will be in place from June 1 - October 31, 2020.

The COVID-19 Recovery Rate of 12.8¢/kWh is based on the average cost of electricity, set by the Ontario Energy Board. This fixed rate will continue to suspend time-of-use prices in a fiscally responsible manner. By introducing this new fixed rate, consumers will have greater flexibility to use electricity when they need it without paying on-peak and mid-peak prices.
Milton Hydro will apply this change automatically for everyone paying TOU rates, you do not have to do anything.

Please be advised that this pricing change does not apply to RPP customers who pay tiered rates.  It also does not apply to consumers who have opted out of RPP to sign a contract with an electricity retailer.

A Message from Milton Hydro’s President & CEO:

The Government of Ontario is extending temporary emergency relief during COVID-19. Households, farms and small businesses who pay time-of-use electricity rates will continue to be charged off-peak rates, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until May 31, 2020. This means that customers who pay time-of-use pricing will be billed at the off-peak rate of 10.1 ₵/kWh until May 31st.

  • On March 17, 2020, the Government of Ontario declared a state of emergency under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA) to help fight the spread of COVID-19. Premier Doug Ford announced that effective March 25, he was ordering the closure of at-risk workplaces to protect health and safety.

  • On March 24, 2020, in response to the outbreak of COVID-19, the Government of Ontario issued an Emergency Order under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. As a result, starting with consumption on March 24, 2020, residential and small business customers on time-of-use (TOU) pricing will pay 10.1 ¢/kWh no matter what time of day the electricity is consumed. This means that TOU customers will be paying the “off-peak” price throughout the day as long as the Emergency Order remains in place. The Government indicated that it intended to keep the 10.1 ¢/kWh pricing in place for 45 days (May 7, 2020).

  • On May 6, 2020, the Ontario government announced it is extending emergency electricity rate relief to families, farms and small businesses until May 31, 2020 during the COVID-19 outbreak. Customers who pay time-of-use electricity rates will continue to be billed at the lowest price – 10.1 ¢/kWh, known as the off-peak price, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This electricity rate relief, initially provided for a 45-day period starting on March 24, 2020, has been extended by an emergency order under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. The rate relief is intended to be in place for an additional 24 days.

  • Milton Hydro’s rates and charges are approved by the Ontario Energy Board (“OEB”) and are to be applied consistently according to our Tariff of Rates and Charges.  On March 27th, the Ontario Energy Board (“OEB”) advised distributors that Late Payment Interest charges may be reduced or waived during the COVID19 emergency relief to support Ontarians. Milton Hydro elected to temporarily waive Late Payment Interest on customer account balances beginning with bills issued on March 31st to help our customers during this difficult time.  Milton Hydro is electing to extend its waiver of Late Payment Interest on customer account balances to May 31, 2020.

  • On April 16,2020 the OEB issued its Decision and Order approving Milton Hydro’s 2020 distribution rates effective May 1st.  The impact on a Residential customer using 750 kWh is $1.30 per month and a General Service < 50 kW customer using 2,000 kWh is $2.58 per month.  Check out details on our website.

  • During these uncertain times, we want to ensure that customers have peace of mind and know that their service will not be disconnected.  We have suspended residential and small business customers from electricity disconnections until July 31, 2020.

The health, safety and well-being of our employees and customers shall always be our priority.  We want to assure you that we will do everything possible to keep your lights on!
